A Brief History of Unibet

As we mentioned, Unibet is a well-known sports betting brand all over the world, and has been for a long time. The business was set up in 1997 by Swedish entrepreneur Anders Ström, from his apartment in London, initially accepting bets by telephone.

Its first website went live in 1999, and the company quickly grew to become Unibet Group plc in 2000, having spread across Europe. Unibet eventually made it down under with the 2012 acquisition of Betchoice, an online bookie that originally opened in 2001. That platform was initially rebranded as Unibet Australia.

In 2016, Unibet Group changed its name to Kindred Group plc, and in 2024, it was acquired by La Française des Jeux – France’s national lottery operator. Today, Unibet remains under the FDJ corporate umbrella.

Is Unibet a Trustworthy Betting Site?

Yes. Unibet is an extremely well-respected international betting and casino brand that’s been around for nearly 30 years. In Australia specifically, it’s operating legally, under the watchful eye of the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission.

The platform has become known for paying punters quickly and reliably, and it also provides an extensive collection of responsible gambling tools. Taking player protection seriously is always the hallmark of a trustworthy bookie.

Unibet Online Betting Platform Review

With more than 25 sports to bet on, Unibet gives users plenty of choice. And the odds, as you’ll see shortly, are consistently towards the top end of the market – at least on the country’s most popular competitions, anyway.

The platform has a full thoroughbred and harness racing product built in, as well as greyhounds.

You’ll also find a few esports, though when we last checked, there were just four – League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant. Still, that’s more than the Colossalbet site, which only offers League of Legends betting.

Innovative Design and Features

In terms of platform features, Unibet delivers everything you’d expect from one of the world’s top bookmakers. No expense has been spared in developing an industry-leading website and mobile app, and the brand is usually among the first to launch innovative new products.

Today, punters can enjoy same game multis, cashout (both full and partial) and a greater selection of live-streamed sports than most Aussie betting sites. It goes without saying that live betting is also an option, and you’ll find the interface particularly easy to use.

Market-Leading Odds

There’s a lot to like about Unibet, but the odds are especially noteworthy. International T20 cricket games, for example, regularly feature some of the best odds in the country. They’re priced to 105%, which is in line with PlayUp and Pointsbet, and only fractionally behind Neds.

This is also true for many other major competitions. AFL games, for instance, are priced to 106%, just behind the likes of Sportsbet and TAB, and bang in line with Ladbrokes. The overround for NRL win markets is also 106%, and only Pointsbet regularly beats this.

Soccer fans can enjoy the biggest EPL odds of any Australian bookie we know of – 1X2 markets are priced to just 105%. Even A-League games are pretty good, with a comparatively low 6.5% margin built into men’s 1X2 odds.

Payment Methods at Unibet Australia

Next up, our Unibet site review takes a look at the deposit and withdrawal options. There aren’t very many, as you’ll see in the table – but all of the most important bases are covered.

Payment MethodDepositWithdrawal
Debit Card
PayID
PayPal
Apple Pay
Bank Transfer

We really like the low transaction limits at this site. You can deposit as little as $5 by card or Apple Pay, and there’s no minimum withdrawal at all.

Unibet doesn’t charge fees for deposits or withdrawals, either. It’s punter-friendly features like these that keep people coming back.

Payout times are generally pretty quick – if your bank can handle rapid payments, it’s not uncommon to receive withdrawals within an hour. Slower ETFs can take up to three days if it’s over the weekend, but most transactions are wrapped up within 24 hours. PayPal withdrawals require up to 12 hours.

Is There a Unibet Mobile App?

There is a Unibet sports betting app, both for Android and iOS devices. It looks great, and faithfully replicates all of the mobile site’s features, only they’re tailored and optimised for your specific device. This reduces loading times and data usage, while providing a more user-friendly experience.

The Unibet apps aren’t the most highly-regarded pieces of software – but they’re not exactly bad, either. Google Play users rate the Android app 4.2* out of five, from over half a million downloads. It’s a similar story for Apple devices, with a 4.1* rating from more than 5,000 reviews.

Unibet Promo Codes

There are no Unibet bonus codes due to the laws around gambling marketing. In 2019, Australia’s betting sites and apps were prevented from advertising new player promotions. If you’ve seen such a bonus for Unibet, it was likely intended for residents of a different country.

However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any promotions at all – existing players can see a number of ongoing promotions upon logging into their accounts.

Customer Support at Unibet

As we approach the end of this Unibet site review, we’d better mention the support channels. You can get in touch via email, telephone or live chat, and we highly recommend the latter. Although it’s not available 24/7, it’s close enough, running from 7am to 3.30am every day.

We’ve always found the agents friendly and knowledgeable, and there’s no AI chatbot to fight with. After providing your name and email, you’re put straight through to a human, usually in a matter of seconds.

How to Create a Unibet Account

  1. Open the Unibet.com.au website by clicking our links
  2. Tap the button marked “Register” at the top of the page
  3. Add your name, email, password, birthdate and gender
  4. Click “CONTINUE” to proceed to step two
  5. Type your home address and mobile phone number
  6. Accept the Ts&Cs, then hit “CONFIRM REGISTRATION”

Assuming there are no issues with the automated identity verification process, your Unibet account will be opened right away. However, if something doesn’t add up, you’ll be asked for further identification, such as a driver’s licence or passport, before you can access the site.

Unibet Australia – Final Verdict

As you’ve seen from this Unibet review, we’re dealing with a respected and trustworthy global brand. Its sports betting odds are consistently among the best in Australia, especially on the games that matter.

Unlike many Aussies bookies, you can watch a wide variety of streams from within the platform. Payouts are quicker than average, too – you’ll get your money in less than an hour, in some cases.

Unibet is always among the first to deploy innovative new features, in what is a solid all-round app and user-friendly mobile site.
